The Department of Educational Rehabilitation and Speech and Language Pathology at the Faculty of Education, Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek, was established in 2024. It comprises distinguished researchers and highly qualified professionals with extensive experience in their respective fields. The department’s scientific, teaching, and clinical activities focus on educational rehabilitation and speech and language pathology. Its interdisciplinary approach also incorporates fields such as otorhinolaryngology, head and neck surgery, early intervention, education, musicology, and medical law, providing a unique contribution to existing study programmes.
The research and professional activities of the department’s members focus on qualitative and cross-cultural studies, as well as investigations into inclusive education, early childhood intervention, community-based learning, autism spectrum disorders, sensory integration and sensory processing challenges, professional development for teachers and rehabilitation specialists, specific learning difficulties, voice, speech, and swallowing disorders, neurological language and speech impairments, forensic voice and speech analysis, music-based rehabilitation interventions, vocational rehabilitation, disability rights, social rehabilitation and inclusion, special andragogy, and gerontology.
Teaching activities within the department are delivered through undergraduate and graduate programmes in Educational Rehabilitation, as well as undergraduate programmes in Speech and Language Pathology, offered at the Faculty of Education. These programmes are designed to meet the contemporary needs of professionals and recipients of rehabilitation services. They are aligned with current European and global standards, ensuring the development of essential competencies for future educational rehabilitation specialists and speech and language pathologists.

Ljiljana Širić, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, was born in Osijek in 1986. After completing high school in Osijek, she graduated in speech and language pathology at the Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation, University of Zagreb, in 2009. She obtained her PhD in biomedical sciences in 2018 at the Faculty of Medicine of the J. J. Strossmayer University in Osijek, defending her doctoral thesis. She earned the title of Medical Law Specialist in 2022 at the Faculty of Law, University of Split. She interned at the Department of Neurology, University Hospital Center Osijek, from 2009 to 2010. She received her professional training in Croatia and the Netherlands and completed several postgraduate courses in continuing medical education. From 2010 to 2023, she was employed at the Department of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery of the University Hospital Center Osijek. From 2016 to 2022, she was an external expert associate at the Department of Neurology of the National Memorial Hospital “Juraj Njavro” Vukovar. Since 2023, she has been working as an assistant professor at the Faculty of Education, J. J. Strossmayer University in Osijek. She is an external associate at the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Health, J. J. Strossmayer University in Osijek, Faculty of Kinesiology, University of Zagreb, and Faculty of Philosophy, University of Mostar. She has published several scientific papers and actively participated in numerous domestic and international congresses. From 2017 to 2021, she was the president, and from 2021 to 2024, she was the vice president of the Slavonia-Baranja branch of the Croatian Speech Therapy Association. She is a member of the editorial board of the journal Logopedija. |

Born in 1997 in Osijek, where she has completed primary education, and high-school for nurses, and later Pedagogical faculty, course: preschool teacher. After that, in 1998., she enters Faculty of education and rehabilitation sciences University of Zagreb, course: educational rehabilitation. From 2001 till 2003 she worked as special education teacher in Centre for education in Osijek Ivan Štark, and from 2003 till 2006 in SOS children’s village int. in Ladimirevci (social care and service) as educator for children without adequate parental care. From 2006, ongoing, she works at Faculty of Education and teaches courses at educational rehabilitation program. Earned PhD in 2014, at the field of special pedagogy. In cooperation with Children’s ombudsman’s office in Croatia actively advocates and promotes the rights of children of incarcerated parents, and she has several keynote lectures on that issue. |

Aleksandra Krampač-Grljušić, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, was born in 1964 in Osijek. In 1988, she graduated from the Faculty of Special Education (now the Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation Sciences) in Zagreb and earned the title of special education teacher. In 2015, she completed her Postgraduate Doctoral Study in Prevention Science and Disability Study at the Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation Sciences in Zagreb and obtained the academic degree of Doctor of Science in the scientific field of social sciences, educational and rehabilitation sciences. She worked for many years in regular elementary schools in the tasks and duties of a professional associate for students with disabilities and since 2004 she has been the director of an inclusive elementary school in Osijek. As an external associate, she worked at the Faculty of Education in Osijek, Slavonski Brod and Vukovar, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Academy of Arts and Culture in Osijek. She was a member of numerous commissions and working groups that aimed to equalize opportunities for children with disabilities and people with disabilities. She actively participate in national and international scientific and professional conferences. |

Dragana Mamić was born in 1963 in Benkovac, where she finished high school. She graduated in 1989 at the Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation of the University of Zagreb. Since 1989, she has been employed at the Center for Autism in Zagreb as an educational rehabilitator, from 2002 to 2018 as the head of the sensory integration rehabilitation program, and from 2018 to 2024 as the head of the Department for preschool and elementary school programs for children and students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). She completed her postgraduate studies at the Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation of the University of Zagreb and defended her master's thesis in 2001, and in 2012 she Earned PhD in the field of mental health of students with ASD and those with intellectual disabilities. She is an external associate on the Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation in Zagreb, at the Teaching and Clinical Centre and Centre for Lifelong Learning in the implementation of assessments of children's sensory integration and the education of experts in sensory integration. She was teaching at the Educational Rehabilitation, University of Mostar from 2020 to 2022. Since 2018, she has been teaching the elective course Autistic Spectrum Disorder at the Department of Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy at the University of Health, Zagreb. She participates in professional and scientific conferences in the country and abroad, and is the author and co-author of dozens of professional and scientific articles. She actively participated in the creation and development of lesson plan drafts as well as the development of special subject curricula for students with disabilities at the Ministry of Science and Education |

Dr Marinela Rosso, PhD, Assistant Professor, and Primarius, graduated in 1994 from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Zagreb. From 1998 to 2018, she was employed at the Department of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery at the Clinical Hospital Center (KBC) Osijek. She passed her specialisation exam in Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery in 2003 and became a subspecialist in Head and Neck Plastic Surgery in 2015. She was awarded the professional title of Primarius in 2013. From 2009 to 2015, she served as Head of the Clinical Department for Head and Neck Surgery, Plastic Reconstructive, and General ENT Surgery. She defended her doctoral dissertation in 2015 in the field of Clinical Medical Sciences within the area of Biomedicine and Health. From 2018 to 2023, she operated her private clinic, Polyclinic Rosso. In 2022, she was appointed to the academic title of Assistant Professor in the interdisciplinary field of Clinical Medical Sciences and Speech-Language Pathology. Dr. Rosso has completed advanced training at several healthcare institutions in Europe and the United States and has attended numerous international courses for continuing medical education. She has actively participated in numerous international and national congresses and professional gatherings. Dr. Rosso is the author of a significant number of professional and scientific papers published in indexed and non-indexed journals, as well as chapters in peer-reviewed books. She is a member of several scientific and professional associations, both nationally and internationally. Since 2023, she has been employed at the Faculty of Education. |

Kristina Kovačić was born in 1993 in Dubrovnik, where she completed elementary school and gymnasium. She graduated in Speech and Language Pathology in 2019 at the Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation Sciences of the University of Zagreb and earned a master's degree in Speech and Language Pathology. She worked in Dubrovnik, Zagreb and Osijek in Preschool education and Social welfare systems. Since July 2024, she has been employed as an assistant at the Faculty of Education of the University of Josip Juraj Strossmayer in Osijek. In addition to her profession, she is also actively involved in agriculture, especially pomology and agronomy. Among foreign languages, she actively uses English, German, French, Spanish and Swedish. |

Ivana Šenk Gergorić (born in 1992) attended two high schools in Osijek - the Jesuit Classical High School with public rights in Osijek and the Music School Franjo Kuhač. She graduated from the Academy of Music of the University of Zagreb in 2014 and obtained the academic title of Master of Music. In the same year, she earned a Bachelor's degree in Speech and Language Pathology at the Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation of the University of Zagreb, where she also earned Master’s degree in 2016. The topic of the thesis was "Applying music in dyslexia treatment". She is the winner of three Dean's awards. From 2016 to 2017, she worked as a speech and language therapist at the Polyclinic for Hearing and Speech Rehabilitation SUVAG in Zagreb, after which she was employed as a piano teacher at the Music School Ivan Matetić-Ronjgov Pula, where she worked until 2024. From 2019 to 2023, she occasionally worked as a speech and language therapist at the Center for Providing services in the Community Healthy City of Poreč-Parenzo. Since June 2024 she has been employed as an assistant at the Faculty of Education of J. J. Strossmayer University in Osijek. She is a member of the Croatian Speech and Language Pathology Association, publishes papers, holds professional lectures and actively participates in conferences. |

Iva Šimundić (née Ćorković) was born in 1993 in Našice, where she attended elementary and high school. She graduated with honors from the Faculty of Education at Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovak Republic, majoring in special education. She received the dean's award for her outstanding master's thesis. After graduating, she worked at the Center for Vocational Rehabilitation in Osijek, initially as a senior expert advisor and later as the head of the Professional Support and Monitoring Department. Since 2021, she has been pursuing a PhD in special education at the Faculty of Education in Bratislava, Slovak Republic. In 2024, she joined the Faculty of Education at J. J. Strossmayer University in Osijek as an assistant in the educational rehabilitation study program. She is the author of several scientific and professional papers and actively participates in domestic and international conferences. |

Vedrana Veić was born in 1991 in Zagreb. She graduated in 2015 from the Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation Sciences in Zagreb, earning the title of Master of Educational Rehabilitation. She worked for several years in mainstream primary schools in the role of professional associate and for one year as a special education teacher in a special education class. As an external collaborator, she worked at the SOS Children's Village in Ladimirevci and GD Žito Osijek (as the leader of a gymnastics group for children with autism spectrum disorder). She has been a member of numerous volunteer organisations and associations aimed at equalising opportunities for children with disabilities, people with disabilities, and parents of children with developmental disabilities. She has actively participated in domestic and international scientific and professional conferences. |
